How You Can Help

There are a number of ways CRRA members and non-members alike can contribute to the building of Catholic Newspapers Online. You can share information about where newspapers are located, their URL if they are available online, and you can work with others to digitize papers.

Please contact Pat Lawton for any questions or assistance. We thank you in advance for your participation.

I. Share title and holdings information

The CRRA has identified several hundred titles, but you can help to expand the existing ICON directory. If there are North American Catholic newspapers in your collections or that you are aware of in your area, please send us a list.

In your list include:

  • The name of the newspaper
  • Where the newspaper is located
  • The issues that are held
  • The format of the newspaper
  • The condition of the newspapers

For questions or more information about Catholic newspapers in ICON, please contact Pat Lawton.

II. Collaborate to digitize Catholic newspapers

CRRA encourages members to seek grants to collaboratively digitize Catholic newspapers or to describe newspapers that are currently hidden.  All diocesan papers are of interest and papers from major cities have been identified by the Scholars Advisory Committee as a priority, including: Chicago, New Orleans, New York, and San Francisco. See: priority papers for a complete list of the identified titles.

III. Share information about Catholic newspapers available online

The CRRA is creating a list of Catholic newspapers currently available online. Please help us to grow this list!

For the Catholic Newspapers Online listing, we are currently looking for the following data:

  • Title (place, if not clear from the title)
  • Years of coverage
  • URL to the resource

For example:

Catholic New World: Newspaper for the Archdiocese of Chicago
2010-current
http://now.dirxion.com/Catholic_New_World/now.html

The Pittsburgh Catholic
Archdiocese of Pittsburgh
March 16, 1844-March 7, 1957
http://digital.library.duq.edu/cdm-pc/

If you participate in any of the three activities above, please send your information or queries to Pat Lawton or any member of the Catholic Newspapers Committee
