Collections Committee

Committee Chargesoule_275x300.jpg

The Collections Committee determines the scope and content to be accessible on or via the Catholic Portal and authors the CRRA Collection Development Policy.

2016/17 goals:

  • Review and revise website content related to the portal scope. Done in collaboration with DAC.
  • Revisit the scope and functionality of the portal through focus groups at member institutions. Assist in planning and implementing focus groups to address the question of the portal value and scope: what is unique and important about the portal, where is it duplicative? Is this a unique resource, filling a niche need? Ask, "What resources do you use? What is unique about the portal?" Done in collaboration with DAC, Liaisons, and Scholars.
  • Compare the resources and attributes (freely available, subject or general, functionality) of the Catholic Portal with those of other collaborative digital libraries, repositories, and/or portals. Assist in identifying key variables or dimensions for the comparison. Done in collaboration with DAC.
  • Mentor 3-5 new and/or continuing members on selecting portal resources.
  • Encourage and support collaborative collection development and digitization around parish histories.
  • Implement strategies for making the DAC/Morgan-developed tool for determining "rare" available. Done in collaboration with DAC.
  • Provide advice and guidance to the Subject Guides Subcommittee; continue the development and dissemination of CRRA Subject Guides.
